In a piece titled “3 Ways to Educate Yourself Right Now About Internet Censorship,” the Epoch Times cited the OpenNet Initiative as one of the best resources in learning about Internet filtering. The OpenNet initiative (ONI) is a joint project between the SecDev Group, the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, and the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto. ONI aimed to investigate, expose and analyze Internet filtering and surveillance practices in non-partisan fashion. The article cites ONI’s interactive map as an informative way to understand the prevalence of global censorship.

In addition, the Epoch Times’ article cite mentions OpenNet Initiative’s books that make up the “Access” series: “Access Denied: The Practice and Policy of Global Internet Filtering,” “Access Controlled: The Shaping of Power, Rights, and Rule in Cyberspace,” and “Access Contested: Security, Identity, and Resistance in Asian Cyberspace“. The series documents trends and patterns of information controls around the world.

The other organizations cited in the piece are Reporters Without Borders & Freedom House.
