2014-08-21 10:10

The UPS Store announced Wednesday it has learned of a potential data breach at 51 of its franchised locations across 24 states throughout the United States.

The breach was discovered after the UPS Store received a government bulletin warning United States retailers of a broad-based malware intrusion.

Based on its current assessment, the UPS store reported the earliest evidence of the presence of the malicious malware at any location dated back to January 20, 2014, but for most locations, exposure to the malware began after March 26, 2014. The malware was eliminated from its system as of August 11, 2014.

The UPS Store added it was not yet aware of any reports of fraud associated with the potential data compromised, which included customers’ names, postal addresses, email addresses and payment card information.

A list of impacted locations, as well as exposure time frames, is listed on the retailer’s website.

The UPS Store stated it has committed extensive resources in response to the malware incident, including the implementation of various system enhancements and antivirus updates.
