ID Cards to catch the workers

They never go away, never get defeated. They just wait until they think we’ve fallen asleep and then they come back again. ID cards are back on the agenda.

Dale Campbell-SavoursLord Campbell-Savours wants the government to bring back the identity card debate. He was a Labour MP from 1979 to 2001, when he resigned because of ill-health. Less than one month later he considered his health sufficiently recovered to enter the Lords, where he still sits and pontificates.

His latest idea is that identity cards should be made compulsory in the UK.

National identity cards backed by sophisticated biometrics and strong authentication would help combat fraud that costs the UK an estimated £30bn a year, he said.
Lords urge government to reconsider national ID card

Will it help recover the billions of pounds lost through large scale corporate tax dodging (corporate fraud to most people)? No. Not a penny.

Lord Campbell-Savours said an ID card would also help government address that fact that many people live outside or on the margins of the tax system, costing the country billions.

Will it help recover the far larger amount lost to corporate tax avoidance/evasion? No. Not a penny.

And yet here we have a Labour politician worried about the pennies lost to the workers who pay his salary – and expenses – without first addressing the pounds, many pounds, to the penny stolen from the Exchequer by the fat cats of Big Business. Unfuckingbelievable!
